The European Electricity Grid System and Winter Peak Load Stress: For how long can the european grid system survive the ever increasing demand during cold winter days?

چکیده
The rich countries of Western Europe and its citizens benefited during at least the last 30 years from an extraordinary stable electricity grid. This stability was achieved by the european grid system and a large flexible and reliable spare power plant capacity. This system allowed a continuous demand growth during the past 10-20 years of up to a few % per year. However, partially due to this overcapacity, no new large power plants have been completed during the past 10-15 years. The obvious consequence is that the reliable spare capacity has been reduced and that a further yearly demand growth of 1-2% for electric energy can only be achieved if new power plants will be constructed soon. The soon existing gap between the supply and the demand wishes of electric energy is widely acknowledged, but most policy and decision makers behave as if electricity shortages are always a few years

The infrastructure of the electricity grid and super grid system in the hitherto industrialized world was to a large extent built up in the decades following World War II with a peak in investments around 1960-1980. This means that the flotilla of power transformers is now starting to reach projected lifetime of around 40 years. During the last couple of decades there has also been an ongoin...
متن کاملLong-Term Peak Demand Forecasting by Using Radial Basis Function Neural Networks
Prediction of peak loads in Iran up to year 2011 is discussed using the Radial Basis Function Networks (RBFNs). In this study, total system load forecast reflecting the current and future trends is carried out for global grid of Iran. Predictions were done for target years 2007 to 2011 respectively. Unlike short-term load forecasting, long-term load forecasting is mainly affected by economy...
متن کاملThe Influence of Smart Grid on TOU Programs With Respect to Production Cost and Load Factor, A Case Study of Iran
Reaching an electricity system which is both economically efficient and environmentally friendly is motivating countries to design and execute different types of TOU demand response programs. But there are certain deficiencies which prevent these programs to effectively modify the load shape. Smart grid as a means could help the electricity system to reach the highest demand side management ...

The electricity economy and its excessive consumption have become one of the main concerns of the Iranian government for many years. This issue, along with recent droughts, shows the need to use renewable energy that is free and clean and does not require water. In addition, due to the high cost of cable-laying and maintenance of power lines, it is not at all an option at all distances over the...

There is growing interest in zero-energy and low-energy buildings, which have a net energy consumption (on an annual basis) of almost zero. Because they can generate both electricity and thermal energy through the use of solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal collectors, and with the help of reduced building thermal demand, low-energy buildings can not only make a significant contribution to...
